A haven for nature lovers and active families, Sacha is located within a 5,000 acre private reserve on Pilchicocha Lake. Just across the river from the lodge lies Yasuni National Park–discovered to be one of the most biodiverse areas of the planet, housing millions of species of flora and fauna. Sacha’s recently renovated accommodations are built in an eco-friendly Amazonian style. Thatched roofs and raised buildings blend in with the surrounding rainforest. Cozy rooms feature A/C, private baths, hot showers, and a porch with hammocks.Excursions include a newly installed canopy observation crane with a 360 degree rotation, guided forest hikes, the largest butterfly farm in Ecuador, a 135-foot observation platform built into the branches of an enormous kapok tree, a 940-foot long impressive canopy walkway with expansive views over the forest, canoe trips along creeks and lakes in search of wildlife, visits with local communities, swimming in a refreshing lake pool, fishing and viewing colorful macaws and parrots at a clay lick.
Skilled bilingual guides carry binoculars and scopes to identify wildlife and birds (600 avian species are found in the vicinity). Eight species of monkeys call this area home including the tiny pygmy marmoset. Families and couples will find spacious cabins and family suites conveniently arranged as single, double and triples. An expanded restaurant, bar and lounge overlook the pristine waters of Pilchicocha Lake. A la carte dinner brings fine dining to the jungle with fresh and sustainable ingredients carefully prepared by Ecuadorian chefs catering to a variety of dietary preferences.
